White Oak is a popular hardwood. Some say it is suitable for waterholding and outdoor projects because it's very dense and its heartwood is resistant to decay. Historically it has been used for boat building.
The color of the wood we carry ranges from beige to creamy tan. It distorts some as it dries, but is stable once cured. In order to bring out the figure in our White Oak, we generally quarter-saw it to show off the medullary rays and open up the flecks.
White Oak is good for wood turning and steam bending. Some of our customers use it for furniture—especially outdoor furniture, turning, veneer, and millwork.
