Woodturning Bowl Blanks
Woodturning is growing quickly in popularity across the world, and is a unique expression of craftsmanship. Although bowls are everyday objects, a turned wood bowl made from high-quality figured wood can be a work of art! Our bowl blanks come in a variety of sizes, to suit your needs. For your convenience, we cut our wood with the grain going across the face, so that the blank can be mounted on a lathe perpendicularly to the rotational axis. (This gives you the option of face plate turning without causing tearout.) Our wood is harvested from natural forests, and has not been kiln dried. The products below are sold with no guarantee of moisture content.

The wood varieties we offer for woodturning projects are naturally light in pigment (compared to darker mahogany or cherry wood), giving you the option of controlling the color tone of the completed piece by staining or finishing with an oil rub. Carefully woodturned bowls and vases can do an amazing job of showing off the texture and figured patterns, particularly in the hands of a master craftsman like Bob Stocksdale, whose bowls have been presented at the Smithsonian and the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art. The contours of a wooden bowl define so much about its appearance, whether the finished piece resembles a more traditional, rustic shape, or a contemporary vessel. When working with the lathe, you are able to transform raw blocks of figured wood into whatever size and style of bowl you wish. The bowl blanks you see in our catalog are just the starting point, and we love to receive photos of our clients' finished pieces. Whether you are creating a simple, rustic set of dinnerware, or working on an incredible piece of art to be displayed in a gallery, woodturning is an incredibly satisfying and rewarding experience! |
