Big Leaf Maple (Extreme Spalt Figure)

Big Leaf Maple (Extreme Spalt Figure) sample image
(representative sample)

As we assemble our inventory of locally harvested wood, we occasionally find spectacular pieces of figured maple that we identify as Extreme Spalted Maple.

These extraordinary pieces may have the undulating waves of Curly or Fiddleback Maple in combination with the beautiful meandering lines and dark and light patches of Spalted Maple.

These pieces are individually priced. Many craftspeople have purchased Extreme Spalted Maple for use in a wide variety of turned projects.

Because spalting is caused by the decay process and can be soft, care should be taken to stabilize any weaker areas of the wood.
